Big Ass Dog Bed Review: Which One Is Right for Your Dog?
Big Ass Dog Company sells three oversized beds for very large dogs. We researched and compared their published sizes, foam, prices, policies and customer reviews to help you pick the right one before you open the box.
Is the Big Ass Dog Bed worth buying?
Based on the published specifications, a Big Ass Dog bed is worth considering if you need unusually large dimensions, but the opened-bed return rule makes fit critical. We haven't used these beds, so we can't confirm long-term foam durability, cooling or comfort. This review rests on the company's published specs and policies, customer reviews on its site and general veterinary guidance, all checked on November 5, 2026.
Veterinary guidance does support padding for big dogs. VCA Animal Hospitals suggests an orthopedic or memory foam bed to reduce pressure on sore joints. It also says large and giant breeds that rest on hard floors can develop elbow hygromas, which are fluid-filled swellings over the elbow, and that adequate padding helps prevent them. The Merck Veterinary Manual lists Great Danes, Mastiffs, Newfoundlands and Saint Bernards among the breeds often affected. That advice applies to padded beds in general. No independent study we found looks at these beds specifically. Comparing other types of bed? Our dog beds department collects our bed research as we publish it.
Which bed should you consider?
Which Big Ass Dog bed should you choose?
The Big Ass Dog bed to choose depends on the shape of the space your dog needs. Pick the Bolster Bed for width, the Gigantic Ass Bed for length and the Tri-FoldAway if the bed has to travel. The company lists these specifications:
| Bolster Bed | Gigantic Ass Bed | Tri-FoldAway L | Tri-FoldAway XL | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $149.95 | $299.99 | $229.95 | $249.95 |

Big Ass Bolster Bed: the wider, lower option
The Big Ass Bolster Bed is the lowest-priced model at $149.95 and the widest at 42 inches across. Its published overall height is 6.5 inches, compared with 12 inches for the Gigantic, although those figures don't establish the height a dog must step over. VCA advises choosing beds that mobility-compromised dogs don't have to climb over or onto. One customer reports that the Bolster's low profile makes it easier for his dog to get up. At 52 inches long, the Bolster has the shortest published outer length in the range, so owners of long dogs that sleep fully stretched out should compare their dog's lying measurement with that figure and allow for space taken up by the bolster.
Gigantic Ass Bed: the extra-long option
The Gigantic Ass Bed costs $299.99, roughly twice the Bolster's price. Its 79-inch outer length gives 27 inches more length than the Bolster, although it's narrower at 36 inches across. Its 12-inch published height includes the bolster, and the company doesn't specify the step-in height, so owners of dogs with limited mobility should confirm that before ordering. The company lists a 4-inch orthopedic foam base with a cooling layer, but we haven't verified its cooling performance.
Tri-FoldAway: the folding travel option
The Tri-FoldAway folds into thirds for cars, campers and storage, and each foam section has its own cover and waterproof liner. Check the size carefully, because the two versions differ: the Large is 70 x 30 inches and the X-Large is 77 x 35.5 inches. The X-Large folds to 25.5 x 35.5 x 30 inches, which is bulky, so measure your trunk or storage space too.
Price per square foot
The Bolster Bed costs the least per square foot, by our calculation. Outer dimensions include any bolster, so the area your dog can actually lie on will be smaller.

Will your dog fit on a Big Ass Dog bed?
Fit depends on your dog's measured sleeping length, sleeping position and the usable space inside the bed, not on weight alone. The company publishes outer dimensions only, and a bolster takes up some of that area, so treat every number below as a best case.
How to measure your dog before ordering
Measure your dog lying down in their usual sleeping position. If your dog stretches out, measure from the nose to whichever extends farther, the back paws or the base of the tail, and compare that with the bed's published outer length. If your dog curls up, measure the widest distance across the curl and compare that with the bed's shorter outer side.
How much room does each bed provide?
Slide in your dog's measurement to see it against each bed at the same scale.

Does your dog fit?
Bolster Bed 52 x 42 in.
Gigantic Ass Bed 79 x 36 in.
Tri-FoldAway L 70 x 30 in.
Tri-FoldAway XL 77 x 35.5 in.
Beds drawn to one scale from the company's published outer dimensions, Nov 5, 2026. These compare one side at a time and aren't the usable sleeping surface: bolsters, seams and raised edges may reduce the space, and a dog may lie diagonally. A positive result doesn't guarantee fit.
If your dog comes close to the edge of a bed on paper, go up a size or ask the company for the inside measurements before you buy. A wrong size is the one mistake the return policy doesn't cover.
What is the foam and cover quality like?
The foam specifications tell you what the company uses, not how it will hold up. Big Ass Dog Company publishes more detail for some beds than others, and we haven't been able to verify any of it independently.
What do the foam specifications tell us?
The Bolster lists a 25D comfort layer over a 40D support base. Foam density describes weight per volume, and a higher number generally means denser foam. It doesn't show how a bed will feel or how long it will last, and the company doesn't publish the thickness of each layer. The Gigantic lists a 4-inch base plus a cooling layer, and the Tri-FoldAway lists a high-density core. A simple check from Dr. Aimee Warner, a veterinarian quoted by Forbes, is to push your hand into the foam: if it slowly comes back and keeps its shape, you're likely seeing real support. Because the bed can't be returned once opened, that test only tells you about quality after you've committed.
Are the covers washable and replaceable?
Yes, on the Bolster and Gigantic. Both have zip-off covers you can machine wash, and the Gigantic's care instructions call for a cold, gentle wash with no tumble drying. Replacement covers cost $39.95 for the Bolster and $49.95 for the Gigantic. The company treats covers as wear items outside its foam promise, so factor in a spare if your dog is hard on bedding. VCA suggests bedding that doesn't retain heat for mobility-limited dogs, especially in warmer climates, so consider that before choosing the Gigantic's shag-style cover.
What do Big Ass Dog Company customer reviews say?
Customer ratings on Big Ass Dog Company's own website are strongly positive. The Bolster Bed shows 4.9 out of 5 from 43 reviews, the Gigantic Ass Bed 5.0 from 38 and the Tri-FoldAway 4.9 from 8, based on the product pages we checked on November 5, 2026. These are brand-hosted ratings, not scores from The Dog Dept. or an independent review platform. We didn't find a Trustpilot or BBB profile in our search, and independent mentions were scarce: one Reddit comment from a Great Dane owner praises the Gigantic. The accounts below are individual and we haven't verified them.
What owners praise
Room to stretch out comes up most often. Customers with a 125 lb Malamute, a 200 lb dog and two dogs totaling over 275 lb say their dogs fit where other beds failed. Two owners also mention quick help from customer service. One owner's durability comment covers just a couple of weeks of use, which is too early to judge foam life.
What complaints keep coming up?
Assembly is the main one. A Bolster buyer describes "a real struggle getting the pads into the cover", and Gigantic buyers call setup "a bit of a chore" and say it "wasn't the easiest to put together". That matters if you regularly remove and refit the covers for washing. A Gigantic buyer wished the bolster zipper went all the way around, and the company replied that its next batch would change it. One Bolster buyer had a zipper problem and got a replacement quickly. Another said the Bolster could be a little bigger for a very tall dog, and a Tri-FoldAway buyer raised how the folded bed locks.
Can you return a Big Ass Dog bed after opening it?
No. The published refund policy says Big Ass Beds are not eligible for return once opened. Beds ship vacuum-packed, and once the foam expands, the bed can't reasonably be repacked. Measure your dog and check the dimensions before you break the seal.
What does the 30-day return policy actually cover?
The site advertises 30-day returns, but the policy has a specific exception for beds. For other items, and for a bed that's still sealed, you have 30 days to request a return. The item must be unused and in its original packaging, the return must be approved first, and you normally pay return shipping. Sale and clearance items are final sale.
What happens if your bed arrives defective?
If a bed arrives with a manufacturing defect, such as a faulty cover or foam insert or shipping damage that affects how it works, the company says it will replace the affected part. You email your order number, a description and clear photos.
What should you check before opening the package?
Check four things: your dog's lying measurement against the bed's outer size, that the bed will fit in your room, that your dog can step in comfortably, and that you ordered the right model. If you're unsure, contact the company while the bed is still sealed.

Store credit
Send a photo for full store credit toward a replacement bed, not cash back. Coverage is for the original purchaser.
Not covered
The 3-year promise excludes chewing, digging, tears, punctures and cover wear. A replacement cover is $39.95 for the Bolster or $49.95 for the Gigantic.

What does the 3-Year No-Flatten Promise cover?
The Big Ass 3-Year No-Flatten Promise covers foam that loses its shape and stops supporting your dog under normal use within three years of delivery. You send a photo and don't need to ship the bed back. The promise goes to the original purchaser only, and it's a remedy for foam flattening: it doesn't let you return a bed that's the wrong size or that your dog doesn't like.
What happens in the first 90 days?
If the foam flattens within 90 days of delivery, the company gives a full refund.
What happens between 90 days and 3 years?
From 90 days to three years, you get full store credit toward a replacement bed, not cash back. The promise excludes chewing, digging, tears, punctures, improper use and normal cover wear, and the company asks you to donate the old bed to a shelter.
How does Big Ass Dog Company compare with Barker Beds?
Big Ass Dog Company offers a lower starting price, while Barker Beds publishes more detailed foam specifications, a 10-year no-flatten warranty and a separate 180-night mattress trial.
Under Barker's published trial policy, eligible customers in the contiguous US can try the mattress and request a refund if they're not satisfied, subject to conditions: you can't start a request during the first 30 days, the bed must be in good condition, and you donate it to a qualifying animal organization. Barker's FAQ separately says foam can't be returned once unwrapped outside that trial. That still offers more purchase flexibility than Big Ass Dog Company's opened-bed rule.
Barker lists 7 inches of foam in three layers, CertiPUR-US certification and US manufacturing. A longer warranty doesn't prove greater durability, and we haven't used either bed. We don't earn a commission from Barker Beds.

FAQ
Are Big Ass Dog beds suitable for dogs over 100 pounds?
Big Ass Dog Company markets its beds to very large dogs, including dogs over 100 pounds. Suitability also depends on your dog's length, sleeping position and mobility, so measure your dog against the published dimensions before ordering.
What is the largest Big Ass Dog bed?
The Gigantic Ass Bed has the longest published footprint at 79 x 36 inches, and the largest overall by area. The Big Ass Bolster Bed is wider at 42 inches, but shorter at 52 inches.
Can you wash a Big Ass Dog bed?
Big Ass Dog beds have removable covers, with care instructions that vary by model. The Bolster cover is machine washable. The Gigantic's shag-style cover needs a cold, gentle wash and shouldn't go in the dryer.
Can you return a Big Ass Dog bed after opening it?
No. The company's refund policy excludes returns once the vacuum-packed bed has been opened. Manufacturing defects are handled with replacement parts, and qualifying foam flattening is covered by a separate three-year promise.
Does Big Ass Dog Company offer a lifetime warranty?
No. Big Ass Dog Company offers a three-year no-flatten promise for qualifying foam shape loss under normal use. It gives a full refund within 90 days of delivery, or store credit from 90 days to three years.
Are Big Ass Dog beds good for dogs with arthritis?
VCA says an orthopedic or memory foam bed can reduce pressure on sore joints, but we found no independent evidence that these particular beds improve arthritis symptoms. Consider your dog's mobility, step-in height and temperature needs, and ask your veterinarian for advice.
