Petcube vs Furbo: Which Dog Camera Should You Choose?

Both brands make treat-tossing cameras that let you watch and talk to your dog from your phone. The real differences are how the camera sees the room and what you'll pay after checkout. We compared the brands' own specs, prices and subscription terms.

By The Dog Dept.Updated Nov 2, 2026
The short answerPetcube is the simpler pick if you want live monitoring with no required monthly plan, while Furbo suits you if rotating coverage, auto tracking and treat tossing matter most. With Furbo, check which model you're buying: some work on their own, but subscription-required versions need an active Furbo Nanny plan.

How Petcube and Furbo differ

The closest match is the Petcube Bites 2 Lite against the Furbo 360° Dog Camera: both stream 1080p video, have two-way audio and toss treats. The difference is how they see the room. The Petcube uses a wide 160° lens that stays still (Petcube). The Furbo turns to give a 360° view and can follow your dog automatically (Furbo).

What each camera sees

One wide view, or one that turns.

Petcube Bites 2 Lite

Fixed 160° lens. Sees one wide area all the time, nothing to steer.

Furbo 360° Dog Camera

Turns to look around the room, one section at a time, and can follow your dog.

Petcube Bites 2 Lite vs Furbo 360° Dog Camera

These are the two to compare if treats are the point. Petcube lets you control how many treats come out and how far they go, and has an autoplay mode to keep your dog busy (Petcube). Furbo's 360° camera holds about 100 treats and works best with small, round treats that aren't sticky or crumbly (Furbo).

A rotating view isn't the same as a 360° lens. The Furbo turns to look around the room, but at any moment it shows one part of it. The Petcube shows a wide 160° view all the time, with nothing to turn.

Petcube Cam 360 vs Furbo Mini 360°

If you mainly want to watch and talk, the smaller cameras are worth a look. The Petcube Cam 360 pans 350° and tilts 55°, streams 1080p video with 8x zoom, has night vision up to 30 feet and a privacy mode that closes the lens, but it doesn't dispense treats (Petcube). The Furbo Mini 360° streams in 2K, rotates 360°, offers auto tracking and has a smaller "Lite Treat Toss" that holds up to 10 small treats (Furbo).

Camera, coverage and treat tossing

Which view suits you depends on the room. A wide fixed lens covers one area well without moving, which suits a dog who stays in one room or a crate area. A rotating camera can cover an open-plan space and follow a dog who moves around, and Furbo's auto tracking does that without you steering it (Furbo).

Both brands list 1080p for their treat cameras, and Furbo lists 2K for the Mini 360°. Specs alone don't tell you how clear the picture looks in a real room, how quickly the app connects or how accurately treats land, and we haven't tested those.

Do Petcube and Furbo need a subscription?

Petcube: no. Every Petcube camera works out of the box for live video (Petcube). The optional Petcube Care plan adds video history, smart alerts, video downloads and, on Premium, a 2-year warranty and 90 days of history (Petcube Care).

Furbo: it depends on the model. Furbo sells two kinds of camera:

  • Standalone models keep the core features free: live view, treat tossing and barking or meowing alerts (Furbo Help Center).
  • Subscription-required models need an active Furbo Nanny plan for everything, including live view, two-way audio, treat tossing and barking alerts (Furbo Help Center).

Furbo's discounted camera bundles may require a Nanny subscription. Check whether the listing says "Standalone" or "Subscription Required" before you order.

What you'll actually pay

Furbo's lowest camera price may be tied to a Furbo Nanny subscription, so a $44 camera isn't necessarily a $44 purchase. Here's what each option cost at checkout on November 1, 2026, before tax and shipping. Sale prices change often.

Cost over time

  • Furbo 360° + Nanny Premium$268.82
  • Furbo 360° + Nanny Standard$223.82
  • Petcube + Care Optimal$201.75
  • Petcube Bites 2 Lite, no plan$81.99

Furbo's $44 camera price needs a Nanny plan, so the plan is part of the real cost. Petcube works without one. Plans renew in month 13 at the advertised rate.

Petcube camera and Care costs

The Bites 2 Lite was $81.99 (list price $149.99) and the Cam 360 was $39.99 (list price $52.99) (Petcube; Petcube). Care is optional: Optimal was $4.99 a month billed yearly ($59.88) or $9.99 month to month, and Premium was $11.99 a month billed yearly ($143.88) or $16.99 month to month (Petcube Care).

Furbo standalone vs subscription-required costs

On November 1, 2026, Furbo's US store offered the subscription-required 360° Dog Camera for $44 (Furbo). With the first year of the Standard Nanny plan at $83.92, that came to $127.92 before tax. With Premium at $104.92, it would be $148.92. Standard renews at $95.90 a year and Premium at $119.90, at the advertised rates, and each extra camera adds $2 a month (Furbo Nanny). Furbo also sells standalone models that keep the basic camera features without a paid Nanny plan. Its help center lists a brand-new standalone Furbo 360° at $119, but only through its replacement program for existing owners, so that isn't a general retail price (Furbo Help Center).

Choose Petcube if you want straightforward monitoring with no required monthly commitment. The Cam 360 is the simple budget option, and the Bites 2 Lite adds treat tossing.

Choose Furbo if rotating coverage, auto tracking and treat tossing are your priorities. The Furbo 360° Dog Camera does all three in one device, unlike the fixed-view Bites 2 Lite. Petcube's Cam 360 also rotates, but it doesn't dispense treats. Furbo's standalone models keep the core features without a plan.

Neither brand wins outright. The better buy depends on the features you need, and on whether you're buying a standalone camera or signing up for a subscription.

FAQ

Is Petcube better than Furbo?

Neither is better for everyone. Petcube suits owners who want live monitoring without a required plan. Furbo suits owners who want a rotating camera that follows their dog and tosses treats. Compare the exact models and whether a subscription is needed.

Can you use Furbo without a subscription?

Yes, if you buy a standalone model: live view, treat tossing and barking alerts stay free. Subscription-required models need an active Furbo Nanny plan for those features, so check the listing before you buy.

Can you use Petcube without paying monthly?

Yes. Every Petcube camera streams live video with no plan. Video history, smart alerts and downloads need Petcube Care, which costs from $4.99 a month billed yearly.

Which has better video quality, Petcube or Furbo?

On paper they're level: both the Bites 2 Lite and the Furbo 360° Dog Camera stream 1080p. The Furbo Mini 360° lists 2K. Specs alone don't show how clear the picture looks in a real home.

Do Petcube and Furbo both dispense treats?

The Petcube Bites 2 Lite and the Furbo 360° Dog Camera both do. The Petcube Cam 360 doesn't, and the Furbo Mini 360° has a smaller "Lite Treat Toss" for up to 10 small treats.
